Ended 2021 with Fun, Friends & Football

Hey! Can you believe we are entering the last few days of 2021?

It just feels like yesterday when we started the Dugout – a weekly newsletter from the house of enJogo. Within a few months, the Dugout has become the medium to share our experiences and know-how with the world. The mission remains astute – to enable every child to play and engage with sports.

Over the last couple of months, we wrote about the journey of current and ex BBFS students like Arjun Pandey, Rohit Kumar, Shlok Shetty. Simultaneously, we also spoke to our coaches, Vikas Rawat, Sangeetha Das, and discussed the importance of building a sporting culture, the right age to start playing, and why we are building a sports company.

The endeavor is to share the triumphs and tribulations from the yesteryears and continuously write our learnings and findings of over a decade in grassroots sports.

It has been an incredible experience so far. But the ending was a cherry on top of a cake!

Ending the year with a high

The students of Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) had an exceptional tour to end 2021. From 19th-24th December, 250+ BBFS students flew to Barnes School & Junior College, a BBFS Residential Academy in Maharashtra.

The students traveled from various cities to participate in Bhaichung Bhutia Champions Cup 2021, the annual football competition for BBFS students.

The week was spent not only engaging with football, but players enjoyed a plethora of other activities. It started with morning hikes to a nearby sunrise point, the football tournament, swimming sessions, basketball, excursions to notable places, evening engagements, and all that jazz!

Our co-founder, Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia, traveled to meet all the players. And he spent time with Ugen, his son, who studies at Vedas International School, a BBFS Residential Academy in Delhi.

“I’m thrilled to witness our student-athletes at BBCC 2021. It seems they had a lot of fun. I thank my team members in Delhi and the rest of India for making the execution so flawless. I can see many talented players are taking part in the competition, and our end goal is to help these players compete at the highest level.

Back in my days, we did not have these competitions. The only tournament I played was the Subroto Cup, and I was spotted from there. Competitive exposure with a balanced curriculum that emphasizes sports and academics is the need of the hour. And I am happy that BBFS has been providing the same for many years now.

I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to Barnes School & Junior College for their support. I hope, in the future, our association will only get better,” said Mr. Bhutia, when asked about his take on the competition and its participants.

More often, Bhaichung was spotted assessing the young players and scribbling pointers. Well, who knows? 2022 might turn out to be grand for some of our boys and girls!
