It’s that time of the year again- anticipation fills the air, the drive is loud and clear, the energy is unstoppable, and young hearts, fueled by their passion for the game, are ready to take the field. BBFS (Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools) is back with its much awaited trials!
For these aspiring athletes, the trials are a gateway to turning their dreams into reality. And this year, BBFS is making some exciting changes to their trial process, bringing new opportunities and challenges to the field. But unlike previous years, where BBFS crisscrossed India with trials in hundreds of cities, 2024 marks a more focused approach. Fewer cities, more talent, and an efficient process that will give the best young footballers in the country a chance to shoot their shot.
“We’re not going to 100 cities this year like we did before,” Divya Kurian explains. “Instead, we’re targeting select cities—places that have consistently shown interest in our trials and produced talented kids. This allows us to focus on the quality of talent while still experimenting with a few new cities we’ve never been to before.”
This shift isn’t just about logistics; it’s about finding the right talent in the right places. “Kids who are serious about football will travel to the nearest trial city. It’s not about making it easy for everyone; it’s about giving the most committed players a chance,” she added.
Last year’s trials spanned across 42 cities, and this time BBFS is aiming for 40, but with a key difference—they’re focusing on cities that deliver the best talent. Siddharth Rawat, a Technical Manager at BBFS shed more light on the strategy:
“The decision to reduce the number of cities was taken based on fewer enrollments in certain places. We want to make sure that when we host trials, we’re in places that truly yield committed players. But if we get sponsors, we can expand again like we did in the 2022-23 season.”
Trials will be held from October to June, giving young athletes months to prepare for what could be one of the most defining moments in their football journey.
One of the most unique aspects of the BBFS trials is their inclusive nature. Unlike other programs, these are not “elimination” trials where players get one shot and are sent home if they don’t perform. BBFS takes a different approach—one rooted in development and potential.
“No one gets eliminated at our trials,” said Divya. “We assess players by comparing how they perform against their peers, but this isn’t a one-time deal. The trial is a stepping stone, a way for us to understand where they are in their journey.”
Rawat adds to this sentiment: “These trials are just the beginning. The goal is to help kids realize their dream of playing for the Indian National Team. It’s a pathway, not just a test.”
For those who make the cut, the journey doesn’t stop at the trial. Players are given a rating, which determines their fee structure for the BBFS Residential Academy. These ratings fall into four different slabs, offering various opportunities based on the player’s potential and financial situation.
BBFS promises to provide all the resources needed to nurture a player’s talent—from top-notch coaching to rigorous training sessions. However, there’s a an important aspect to keep in mind. BBFS doesn’t necessarily promise to make anyone a professional footballer. What they do offer is a platform where young athletes can develop their skills, gain exposure, and ultimately chase their dreams.
“We’ll give you everything you need to get there, but the rest is up to you. You have to give it your all, you have to fight for a dream, and we’ll help you achieve it!” said Divya.
The BBFS trials are a golden opportunity and a huge platform for young footballers to harness their talent and dedication. For all those kids who are looking to participate int his years trials, For young athletes preparing for the trials, BBFS has one key piece of advice: have fun. “The trials are not just about showcasing talent; they’re an opportunity to enjoy the game, meet new players, and see how you measure up against other talented kids. It’s a chance to learn and grow, and we want every participant to enjoy the experience.”
Divya also explains that players don’t have to rely on just the trials. “If you missed out, come visit us at the Residential Academy. You can give the trial, see the campus, and experience what BBFS is all about. This isn’t just a one-time chance—we’re here for those who are ready to make the effort.”
Rawat adds, “To all the players out there, BBFS trials are for those who dream of playing for the Indian National Team. This is your pathway. Enroll in the BBFS Residential Academy and give yourself the best chance to achieve that dream.”
While football trials can be nerve-wracking, BBFS is making it clear that their focus is on fun, growth, and opportunity. Even during the trials, kids will get the chance to meet and compete with 70-80 other players, pushing themselves in a supportive, challenging environment.
The shift to fewer cities in 2024 may seem like a smaller stage, but the message from BBFS is clear: It’s not about where you’re from—it’s about where you’re going.
So, lace up those boots and get ready—this year’s BBFS trials could be your first step toward making history. Question is, are you ready?
